WWE NXT Review – 2.7.23

Fallout from Vengeance Day

Hey Y’all, Will here with my review of WWE NXT live from Orlando, FL. Here we go!

After a recap of what happened at Vengeance Day, we get Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams when

Hayes talked about Apollo Crews become like his Ms. Cleo and before bragging about his win, out comes

JD McDonagh who say Hayes is entitled. A match was setup for later.

Fallon Henley isn’t happy that Kiana James cheated to win the titles and insists on a rematch. James isn’t

sure, so Henley says they’ll talk about James possibly cheating on Brooks Jensen. Before they can get to

that, it’s time for a surprise party in their dressing room. (This feels more like a CW drama than actual

wrestling storylines, all we’re missing is emo vampires)

Grayson Waller interrupting Shawn Michaels’ post-Vengeance Day media call, earning a week’s

suspension as a result. (I like this, Waller seems to be setting up a storyline that involves Michaels and

how he is running NXT)

Sol Ruca v. Zoey Stark is the first match we have and its wasn’t a squash match but it wasn’t very long

either. Stark hits a superkick on Ruca followed up with a flipping knee to the face for the win. Post-

match the beatdown stays on but Ruca manages a Sol Smasher to leave Stark laying. (Ruca is great to

watch in the ring but Stark is definitely getting a push so it makes sense for Stark to get the win)

We go to the surprise party, where Kiana James doesn’t want to talk about the Brooks Jensen thing.

Pretty Deadly, looking rough, come in, saying they haven’t slept since Vengeance Day. They blame Chase

U. A match is made for later tonight. (Never thought l would say thank you Chase U from saving us from

the CW drama)

Next up is Dabba-Kato v. Dante Chen and it wasn’t a match. Dabba-Kato squashes Chen with a sitout

chokebomb for the win. (As good ol’ J.R. used to say he doesn’t get paid by the hour) Post-match Kato

promises to break Apollo Crews.

Diamond Mine was regrouping after their loss to Indus Sher last week. Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn came in

to mock them. A match is made for later.

Roxanne Perez is happy with keeping her title but Katana Chance and Kayden Carter are upset about

their title loss. Perez is going to make a phone call and get a partner.

Next match up is Isla Dawn v. Tatum Paxley with Alba Fyre at ringside. Not a long match Dawn gets with

the win over Paxley 3 minutes into the match. Post-match Dawn and Fyre tease the beatdown but Ivy

Nile runs in for a save.

We get JD McDonagh v. Carmelo Hayes with Trick Williams at ringside. Great match between the

two but we see a wild Iija Dragunov who comes out of nowhere to take out Williams while Hayes

beats McDonagh with a roll-up for the win. Post-match Dragunov teases going after Hayes but

jumps McDonagh instead. (This was an odd finish, a distraction and a follow up roll up. The match

was great but the finish needed more an impact.)

Thea Hail comes up to Tiffany Stratton and they get into an argument over whether Chase U is cool or

tacky. Hail goes on a rant and tells her to suck it but gets pulled off by Ava Raine.

Back at the party, Brooks Jensen is ready for Valentine’s Day with Kiana James, so Fallon Henley can’t

bring herself to say anything. (More CW drama we didn’t need)

We get Lyra Valkyria v. Valentina Feroz in a match with Wendy Choo ringside in Feroz’s corner. Match

was short, Elektra Lopez comes out for the match as well and slides some brass knuckles to Feroz but

Valkyria wins with a pair of kicks to the head. (This entire match was just off, the ringside people, the no-

sell on some moves, but the finish was lacking.)

We see Wes Lee coming back home after Vengeance Day and meeting his wife at the airport. (Great

match with him and Dijak but it should have been booked for Dijak to win the title) Lee is fired up and

wants a challenge. Tony D’Angelo and Stacks come in to say they want payment for helping him against

Dijak, Lee is holding an open challenge for the title next week.

Tyler Bate wants Grayson Waller next week.

We get Stacks v. Odyssey Jones in a match that was ok, Stacks hits the Stomp on Jones for the win. (The

match was missing something, Jones losing was odd because he was getting some push and Stacks using

the stomp for the finisher was surprising.)

Roxanne Perez has a partner for next week: Meiko Satomura.

We get our match of Pretty Deadly v. Chase U, the match itself seemed to be surrounded by Thea Hail as

she is supposedly being kidnapped. Hudson really shined on this as he cleaned house with the hot tag

and out comes Thea Hail holding her knee causing the distraction which lead to Pretty Deadly hitting

Spilled Milk for the win. (That was a weird series of events.)

Hank Walker wants to take Wes Lee’s open challenge next week but Charlie Dempsey comes in. Drew

Gulak thinks Walker is ready for a rematch with Dempsey, who implies Gulak cheated to beat him.

We have Bayley and her Ding Dong Hello segment where she ranting about Lita showing up on RAW and

messing her cage match with Lynch. She invites Toxic Attraction on after both lost their chance at the

NXT women’s title. Jacy and Gigi pointing the blame on each other as Bayley says is it a split coming for

Toxic Attraction. Which causes Jacy and Gigi to bond over a possible tag team title shot at the current

champs to which is held by Damage CTRL. Bayley tries to cool things down and hug it out, but Jacy drops

Bayley and Gigi gets sent into the Ding Dong hello door as Jacy stands tall to end the show. (Well, so

much for the split, it looks like Toxic Attraction may remain as a whole and may go up against Damage

CTRL if they were called up.)

Overall, this NXT episode fell a little flat. Way more segments, a lot of matches were short or lacking and

your best thing going felt like a Shawn Michaels barbershop throwback. This is the first NXT post

Vengeance Day and starting the road to Stand and Deliver but this is definitely an off night. My rating for

this week’s NXT is 2 chair shots out of 5.

Peace!

Monday Night Raw Review 2.6.23

Elimination Chamber Qualifying Matches

Hey Y’all, Will here with my review of RAW for 2.6.23 live from Orlando, FL. Here we go!

We start off with Edge and Beth Phoenix after they did a recap of the last elimination chamber where

edge said l quit in his match when Beth phoenix was about to get a conchairto. Before they could start

out comes the Judgement Day without Ripley to confront them. After some jawing, the brawl is on and

the Street Profits come in for the save, and Beth hits the Glam Slam on Dominik. (Not a bad way to start

RAW has Edge comes back with Beth to reignite their feud with the Judgement Day.)

Back from the break we get an elimination chamber match between Angelo Dawkins vs. Damian Priest.

Not a bad match between the two, as Priest hits South of Heaven for the win and punches his ticket to

the elimination chamber match. (I didn’t expect Dawkins to win, as Priest Is getting pushed. The Street

Profits are showing singles run for each, and l’m concerned. Considering the number of tag teams on

RAW and for the division, the Profits need a tag title run, not to be separated.)

So Adam Pearce welcomes the Maximum Male Role Models to RAW (l can’t believe this is still a thing)

only to get interrupted by Chelsea Green who isn’t happy with her chocolate delivery and threatens

Pearce to fix it or he will get fired. (This was a wasted segment if we’re going to have Chelsea do the

same thing Carmella was doing just two years ago, just scrap the idea.)

Next match we get is Baron Corbin v. Dexter Lumis with Johnny Gargano and JBL at ringside. Not bad

kind of felt squash-ish. Lumis gets the win by hitting the silence on Corbin. (The thing with Corbin and

JBL isn’t working. It just feels more like cannon-fodder than an actual push. I mean if you’re going to be a

heel then the hell should get some wins, at least.)

So we get a recap of the Becky Lynch/Bailey situation with their catch match set for Elimination

Chamber as Lynch says she has one more card to play.

Brock Lesnar comes out and says he can’t seem to be rid of Bobbly Lashley and because of that he wants

to settle it at Elimination Chamber. He pulls out a contract and wants Lashley to sign it, Lashley comes

out and says his team will look at it as they will fight on his terms. Lesnar hits Lashley with an F5. (It’s not

like we didn’t see this coming but still, how is this exciting for a rubber match!? Hopefully this will be the

last.)

Dexter Lumis has drawn a picture of the Gargano Family, including Nikki Cross looking on. Cross is

behind them and runs off. (Ok, file that under creepy.)

We get another elimination chamber qualifying match between Carmella v. Candice LeRae v. Mia Yim v.

Piper Niven. Not a bad match but Carmella kicks Niven to the floor and rolls LeRae up for the win and

punches her ticket to the Elimination chamber match. (Carmella, are you kidding me!? You had Candice

LeRae who is due for a win, Mia Yim, who is also due for a win. Piper Niven who might as well be there

for attendance but Carmella gets the nod!? This is terrible booking; all we’re missing from Carmella at

this point is Dance Break. You remember Dance Break? Pepperidge Farms remembers.)

JBL quits on Baron Corbin for being such a screwup. Corbin promises he can do better but JBL walks

away anyway. MVP can be seen talking to Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander in the back. (Thank

black Jesus that Corbin angle is over, l kinda miss his lone wolf gimmick, his happy corbin wasn’t getting

over even with JBL who l think didn’t more to hinder him than help him. But MVP talking to Benjamin

and Alexander, just come back with the Hurt Business already.)

Next match up is Cedric Alexander/Shelton Benjamin vs. Alpha Academy in what was a great match

between the two teams. Eventually Alexander hits a Lumbar Check on Gable for the win for his team.

(Both teams need something, Alpha Academy needs a certain feud for them to really shine. As for

Alexander and Benjamin, the Hurt Business could be the type of faction that could even go to head to

head with the Bloodline.)

After a recap of Rick Boogs back at Raw and beating Miz we get to Miz wanting payback on Boogs as he

sees him coming out of Pearce’s office. Pearce tells Miz they will have a rematch next week, Chelsea

Green shows demanding an opponent right now or she’ll pull a Karen and want Pearce’s manager.

This leads to a match between Chelsea Green v. Asuka with the rest of the qualifying women from the

elimination chamber match at ringside. As Green is distracted by the other women, Asuka just comes

with a bunch of strikes and a sets up and Asuka lock for the win. (Definitely a squash as l hope it would

be for Asuka. Her Kana-Chan was great and l want to see Asuka dominate like she used to.) Post match

we get the big staredown but here is Bianca Belair to ask who is going to win the Chamber. She knows

what it means and wishes them all luck, because she’ll be waiting at Wrestlemania.

We get a Cody Rhodes segment to where he and Paul Heyman started off with all respect and even a

trip down memory lane in ECW where Cody’s brother and Cody himself had great runs. However,

respect went out the window as Heyman told Cody his father Dusty said Cody was his favorite son, but

Roman Reigns was the son he wanted. That match was definitely lit as Cody vowed to take the titles

personally. (If that wasn’t a then l took this personally moment. Heyman is magic on the mic, and a

master of timing. Using that one shot alone changed the entire segment. Cody reacting off that was

perfect as well. I was worried how they were going to pump up their future match, but that is one way

to definitely do it.)

We get a Money in the Bank Qualifying Match between Elias v. Montez Ford. Definitely a great match as

Ford put on a show, even as he hit From the Heavens for the win and qualifies for MITB. (I’m a little

worried because the Street Profits are showing signs of splitting. Ford in his own right just shines and he

may be a world champion someday, but booking him to win MITB just sounds like a great idea.) Post

match Seth Rollins pops up to take out Theory, including the Stomp on the floor.

We get our main event of the night with Becky Lynch v. Bayley in cage match. The rest of Damage CTRL

on the outside. Great match as it looked like Bayley was going to escape via the cage after a CTRL

interference but Lita of all people show up and clear out CTRL while closing the door on Bayley who

leads to Becky hitting a Manhandle slam for the win. (Lita of all people was definitely a surprise. Lynch

was due for a win as this is definitely not the end of their feud but a great way to end the show.)

Overall, the show was ok, but considering we’re not too far from elimination chamber, matches need to

be set and in place to ramp up hype and storylines. My rating for this week’s RAW is a 3 out of 5 chair

shots.

Peace!

WWE Royal Rumble 2023

The official start to of the road to WrestleMania

Hey Y’all, Will here with my review of the 2023 Royal Rumble live from San Antonio, TX. Here we go!

We started off with the Men’s Royal Rumble Match and there were some surprises, Booker T still

showing he’s still got it, Spinerooni, and all. Edge coming back and re-igniting the feud with Judgement

Day eliminating Damian Priest and Prince Balor only to get jumped by Rhea Ripley who gets speared by

Beth Phoenix. (Welcome back Edge and Beth!) For some odd reason we got Logan Paul who had a nice

coast to coast cross-body with Ricochet. Then we got Cody Rhodes entrance as it came down between

Cody, Seth, and Gunther (His name is Walter!) which eventually Cody did get the win, and punched his

ticket to Wrestlemania.

(Wasn’t a bad Men’s Royal Rumble, but l miss surprises that usually show up in the Rumble. John Cena

showing up could have helped. If WWE has signed some new talent, it would have been great to have

them in the Rumble as well. However, the way they forecasted Rhodes winning the Rumble just made it

lose its luster a little. Madcapp Moss not showing up may cause some controversy, and Rey Mysterio not

being a part of it kind of made it an ok rumble but could have been better.)

Next up is the Pitch Black Match between Bray Wyatt and LA Knight. The pitch black sponsored by

Mountain Dew (because they plugged it every chance they got) was a cool idea, everything in glow in

the dark/fluorescent colors from LA Knight’s gear, the ring, but was cool was Bray Wyatt’s makeup that

glowed in the dark. That was awesome. The match, however, left a little to be desired. Wasn’t a squash

match but it wasn’t a decent one either. Wyatt wins with Sister Abigail. Post match Wyatt puts on a

mask and runs after LA Knight to a soundstage for the continued beatdown. Then we see Uncle Howdy

at the top of the soundstage who jumps down onto LA Knight and cue the pyro as Wyatt looks on. The

camera pans up and we see Firefly Funhouse characters looking from the top of the soundstage as well.

(Ok, so weeks of buildup and this is what we get. The concept is fine but it should have been more like

Styles v. Taker when they fought at the boneyard. It should have had a more vignette style as that would

have fit Wyatt’s gimmick and the Wyatt 6. This felt more like a filler match than one we were looking

forward to.)

After that, we get the RAW Women’s Championship between Alexa Bliss v. current champ Bianca Belair.

It was a fairly ok match, Belair was able to get the win with the KOD, for a moment in the match Bliss

looked like she was going to use Sister Abigail but hesitated which gave Belair the opening for the win.

Post match a video plays of Bliss when she was associated with Bray Wyatt but not her Alexa’s

playhouse and Lily but ask is she the one in control to a confused Alexa Bliss in the ring.

(This was another match that felt like it should have been on RAW than a live premium event. Belair is a

rare talent and because she is on that level, her opposition has to be the same. To me Belair had to slow

down a little to sell the match with Bliss, and that may have not helped. A better match up would have

been to go champion vs. champion with Belair facing Charlotte. Sure it may have been non-title but it

would have been better competition. Also the teasing of Bliss joining the Wyatt family, just do it already

this doesn’t need long term story book telling.)

Then we get the Women’s Royal Rumble match and honestly it was better than the Men’s Royal

Rumble. There were a lot of surprises there. Asaka went back to her dark persona from her New

Japan/S.T.A.R. days, Piper Niven, return of Chelsea Green, Zelina Vega dressed like Juri from Street

Fighter 6, Michelle McCool coming from the crowd (literally), and the return of Nia Jax. Overall, it was

entertaining. Ripley was #1 entrant and pretty much went wire to wire, eliminated Chelsea Green as

soon as she entered the ring. Michelle McCool came in from the crowd like she just got off the bench

and still looked great. Nia Jax surprised everyone, but still was entertaining as ever. Although l noticed

they didn’t let her do much. Overall, it came down to Ripley v. Liv and Ripley was able to throw Liv over

the top to win the Women’s Royal Rumble.

(This was great. Loved seeing Asaka go back to her old gimmick and it was great, hopefully she can get a

push from that. Chelsea Green returning to the WWE, does that mean we may be seeing Matt

Cardona/Zack Ryder return as well!? Nia Jax was great to see, she’s a monster heel that can fill a void in

the women’s division to go against Raquel Rodriguez. Although the only gripe l have with this, Beth

Phoenix attacked Ripley during the men’s Royal Rumble, but wasn’t there for the women’s? I feel like

Beth could have been a part of this to fuel the storyline more. Ripley winning is the best choice as she is

the next face of women’s wrestling in WWE and may be facing Belair or Charlotte at Wrestlemania.)

We get the main event of the WWE Undisputed Title match between Roman Reigns v. Kevin Owens as

Reigns brings Heyman and Sami Zayn with him. The match started off slow but got hot as Kevin Owens

really hit a lot of offense but eventually Reigns gets the upper hand and beatdown Owens till they point

all it took was a superman punch and a spear for Roman to retain. Post match the Usos and Solo Sikoa

comes out for the continue beatdown on Owens as Zayn looks torn and disgusted. Roman has Owens

handcuffed to the ropes and is about to hit Owens with a chair as Zayn steps in to stop him. Roman then

hands the chair to Zayn and tells him to do it. Zayn hits Roman with the chair and Solo and Jimmy beat

down Zayn for the betrayal. Jey looks on and eventually leaves the ring as the beatdown on Owens and

Zayn continues. Roman rips off Zayn’s shirt as the bloodline stands tall as the show ends.

(Well, that was a lot, Reigns retaining never felt like there was a possible way the opposite could happen

and Owens would be booked to win. However, Reigns won CLEAN, he won CLEAN, no interference or

distraction. That was different. I would have expected something but not that. Zayn turning on the

bloodline was eventually going to happen but Rumble was as good as place as any. What was the big

surprise was Jey Uso leaving the ring. The fact that it was the same man who vouched for Zayn and the

look on his face was torn between his bloodline and his word for Zayn was perfect. Now this sets up a

new storyline for the bloodline. Will we see the beginning of the end of the faction as we are on the

road to Wrestlemania? Also RIP to the word “Ucey “)

Overall, 2023’s Royal Rumble just felt ok. It didn’t have the same feel as years past, we didn’t have any

big reveals or surprises. This felt like the safest Rumble show in recent history. Was it entertaining yes,

was it memorable. Not as much. My rating for this year’s Royal Rumble is a solid 3 chair shots out of 5.

Peace!

WWE Raw Review – 1.23.23

RAW gets XXX… 30-year anniversary you cheeky people

Hey Y’all. Will here with my review of RAW for 1.23.23 as we celebrate RAW’s 30 year anniversary. The

longest running weekly episodic television program in history! What does this anniversary bring, we’ll

soon find out. Here we go!

We get Hulk Hogan and Jimmy Hart to talk about RAW debuting back in 1993 and the mic doesn’t work.

(I never been so thankful for a malfunction on Hogan. We haven’t forgot Hogan, we haven’t forgot.)

After the RAW montage we get the Bloodline for the trial of Sami Zayn. The crowd was chanting ECW

but Paul Heyman says ECW is dead and l wish the same for Zayn. (Damn, great line for heat). Heyman

was more like the prosecutor as he is stating Zayn is setting the Bloodline up as he says he is

collaborating with Kevin Owens. Zayn begins to defend himself saying he has done nothing wrong and

has always supported the bloodline, and then bumps into Reigns while he’s talking. Reigns looks pissed

and tells Solo to take care of Zayn. Before he can do that Jey steps forward and defends Zayn saying he

has proven himself and Reigns find Zayn not guilty for now. It looks like the Owens v. Reigns match will

have a lot of implications in the Royal Rumble. (l like this segment, it builds up not only the Royal

Rumble match but sets up the next story for the bloodline.)

We get our first match, for the RAW tag team titles, Usos v. Judgement Day. It was a great match even

with Jimmy got hurt and the ref is about to stop the match, but Sami Zayn comes in as the replacement

and the match continues. Zayn and Jey win the match with 1D. (This was a great match and the

implication of Zayn having to prove himself to the bloodline adds more to it.)

In the back, Roman Reigns says he still doesn’t want to see Sami until the Royal Rumble.

JBL and Baron Corbin ask the Godfather to put him in the poker game. Godfather will have to ask the

host. Who happens to be Ron Simmons, who is happy with a payoff to get Corbin’s name on the list.

(Usually this casino segment is just stale but how can you be mad at the APA, it’s like the Attitude Era

never left.)

LA Knight comes out and says he’s not waiting for his pitch black match with Bray Wyatt, so he’s calling

out any legend and we get the gong (Do l really need to explain who comes with that gong) Taker comes

out with his American Bad Ass gimmick and motorcycle. Knight still talking about how he’s going to

come out on top, and the lights go out and comes back on with Bray Wyatt and that startles Knight into

Taker who looks like he’s about to set up Knight with a chokeslam but tosses Knight to Wyatt who hits

Sister Abigail. Taker leaves but before he does, he whispers something to Wyatt. (Usually this a feeding

segment but this works, especially for the pitch black match. We were bound to see Taker sometime but

to see it in collaboration with Wyatt was perfect.)

We go back to the poker game, where Madusa who has their title belt seems to win but loses to

Diamond Dallas Page.

Our next match was supposed to be Bayley v. Becky Lynch in a cage match. However, interference with

Damage CTRL being involved and getting inside the cage to beatdown Lynch, eventually Pearce and refs

get to break it up, and Damage CTRL sits on top of the cage. (So we decided another beatdown was

better than an actual match. I though Bayley v. Lynch would be for the Rumble and it should be but this

was a wasted segment.)

So we get Degeneration-X along with Kurt Angle and after the DX intro, Dogg asks why Kurt is here and

Kurt says he always wanted to be an apart of DX, pulling off his shirt to reveal a DX shirt. As DX is about

to test Kurt, Imperium comes out and teases a fight with DX. Triple H says he’s retired and Shawn says

he’s too old, and Triple H volunteers Kurt and Kurt says nope. This bring Seth Rollins and the Street

Profits who come in and wants to make it an official six-man tag match. Everyone looks at Triple H and

he says why is everyone looking at me, this booking stuff isn’t easy. Cue Teddy Long to come out and

make it official and Kurt is the guest referee who just happens to have on a ref shirt. (This man had on

three shirts) and the match is set. (I thought this would be a snooze but this segment was pretty funny

and somehow just goes to show some wrestlers can pull off a great bit.)

We get our six-man tag match of Imperium v. Seth Rollins/Street Profits in a great match. It was a lot of

back and forth but Rollins hits a Pedigree on Gunther while Montez hits from the Heavens on Vinci

followed by Rollins with the Stomp for the win. (Great match, and giving the hometown crowd what we

wanted to see.)

Back to the poker game where Ted DiBiase loses a fortune….but IRS wants JBL and Baron Corbin to pay

their taxes and takes the money back. Well save for $100. Ron Simmons, Damn. (Come on now you

knew that was coming.)

Bobby Lashley promises to get the US Title back when MVP interrupts. MVP again offers the reunion but

Lashley isn’t in. (Come on give us the Hurt Business, it was a great faction.)

We then get Ric Flair who comes who puts over Charlotte as a great Champion. Charlotte thanks the

women who made her a great champion but says this is still her show. Bianca Belair comes out and says

she goes here now and that this is her show. Then Sonya Deville comes out and says she should be

recognized for the work she put in. Charlotte offers Belair the chance to fight Deville. Belair accepts.

(This was weird, I would rather have a match between Belair v. Charlotte, at least then a champion v

champion match would have been better.)

The Sonya Deville v. Bianca Belair match starts and it wasn’t a bad match, it just felt off. Deville was

getting a lot of offense and almost a two count, but Bianca pops up and hit a KOD for the win. (It was

just off, no chemistry between Deville and Belair so it showed in the match.) Post match Belair says that

was just a preview for what she is going to do to Alexa Bliss. Cue Bliss on screen, talking into a mirror

about how violent she can be with no one helping her.

Video on Cody Rhodes’ 2022 before he returns this weekend at the Royal Rumble.

John Cena is the cover star for WWE 2K23. Miz to ask where his special time on this show is. Cue Kevin

Owens to Stun Miz and leave him laying, promising to take out Roman Reigns at the Rumble. (Talk about

a hit and run.)

We then get the US title match between Lashley v. Theory. It was a good match but as Lashley looks like

he is about to set up for the win. Lesnar comes out for the interference and hits an F5 on Lashley and

then another F5 before dragging Theory on top of Lashley to for the win and retain his title. (Well, this

was bound to have some interference but why Lesnar? We already had our Lesnar/Lashley match but

apparently we need a round 2? Theory winning was the right choice, but what would have this better if

MVP came out post-match and set up again starting the Hurt Business.)

Overall, this was a great 30 year anniversary show. The segments (except for one) worked well. The

matches, almost all of them were great. This was about as near flawless show to have before the Royal

Rumble. My rating for this week’s RAW is a solid 4 chair shots out of 5.

Peace!

AEW Rampage Review 1.20.23

If anything, there is action

Hey Y’all, Will here with my review of AEW Rampage live from Fresno, California. Here we go!

We first get Jungle Boy v. Ethan Page in a match with Isaiah Kassidy, Stokely Hathaway, and Matt Hardy

at ringside to support Page. A lot of action between the two, but Jungle Boy gets the win with a sunset

flip followed by the pin. Post-match Hathaway and Page yell at Hardy, who says he didn’t cost him a

match. Page says Hardy can make this up to him in a tag match on Dynamite. Hathaway: “Until then,

Matt Hardy, YOU’RE ON TIME OUT!” (Jungle Boy is on a push but he needs a feud to get him to that next

level, Page is ok but not it. Although if l was playing fantasy booking, Darby Allin with the TNT title looks

mighty promising.)

Here is Ortiz to find out what is going on with Eddie Kingston. After blaming the House of Black for

having Kingston to the point of hitting a woman with a chair, Ortiz calls Kingston out. Cue Kingston, chair

in hand, so this could get violent fast. Ortiz wants to know why Kingston has not been talking to him, but

now he wants to hit a woman with a chair. Kingston was raised better than that and their mentor

Homicide taught them better than that. Something in there was too far for Kingston, who cuts Ortiz off

with a chair shot. Another shot leaves Ortiz lying and Kingston leaves. (Well, l didn’t expect this to be

good, Kingston has always been great showing emotion or lack thereof and this was great. There is a

reason he is called the mad king.)

Darby Allin wants Buddy Matthews for the TNT Title on Dynamite.

We then get Brian Cage v. Willie Mack in a match was that fun was but it looks like Cage is getting put

over, and Mack while putting on a great match felt like he got fed to put Cage over. Cage goes on a

finisher tear, a couple of F5, Powerbomb, and then the Drill Claw for the win. (Well it was a great match

but still so many finishers it didn’t make any sense.)

Our next match is Jade Cargill/Leila Grey v. Vanity Twins. Well if you were guessing if it was a squash

match, well its wasn’t but it felt like one. Cargill’s team gets the win with Jade hitting Jaded. (I don’t get

why Cargill gets this undefeated streak but not really getting anything out of it. It’s like the college

football argument of who has she beat? Hopefully this changes..soon.)

After a video recap of Action Andretti v. Jericho Appreciation Society, Daniel Garcia says he will take out

Andretti which leads to our next match. Action Andretti v. Daniel Garcia with Sammy Guevara on

commentary. Garcia has a stipulation on taking Sammy’s tag spot along Jericho on Dynamite if he wins.

Pretty good match between the two, Andretti gets the win with a running shooting star press. (I thought

for a second Guevara may interfere to help or distract Garcia but this was the best outcome. This sets up

turmoil between Guevara and Garcia and a little disruption in the Jericho Appreciation Society.)

Well, even though it was only an hour, we did get a solid hour of great matches. Rampage isn’t usually

as explosive as Dynamite but if they keep putting in matches with great wrestlers that may not get the

shine on Dynamite then Rampage can hold its own. My rating for this week’s Rampage is 3 ½ chair shots

out of 5.

Peace!

Trouble in Paradise with the Bloodline

WWE Smackdown Review – 1.6.23

Hey Y’all, Will here with my review of Smackdown for 1.6.23 live from Memphis, TN. Here we go!

We start off the bloodline coming to the ring as Roman is unhappy, not about his match with losing to

Cena and Owens but that Zayn called his shot and missed, but called his shot like he wanted to run

things. Reigns starts to tear into Zayn saying how he wants to be the tribal chief until Reigns is

interrupted by Kevin Owens. Owens comes to remind Reigns he’s a problem that will never go away

until a match is set at the Royal Rumble for the undisputed title to which Reigns adds the stipulation that

if he wins, Owens go away forever. (Not a bad way to begin Smackdown but it seems we’re getting

another championship vs. career match. I didn’t think we would sour the honeymoon with Zayn being in

the bloodline, it’s been gold since Ucey. However, it does begin to set the groundwork that we may see

a new champ at the Royal Rumble.)

After a dispute earlier in the day we get a match between Kofi Kingston v. Santos Escobar with Xavier

Woods and the rest of Legado del Fantasma ringside. Fairly good match with Escobar getting the win

over Kingston with the Phantom Driver. (Kingston being set in WWE did alright putting Escobar over in

this match.)

We see a segment where Sami tries to talk to Roman Reigns but gets Paul Heyman who says now is not

a good time as the Usos go in to see Reigns. (Well, l guess we’re sowing the seeds early)

Liv Morgan announces she will enter the women’s Royal Rumble and willing to go in at #1 (l love Liv but

this should be a perfect time for a fresh face to get the Royal Rumble rub.)

We then get an inter-gender match between Emma/Madcapp Moss v. Karrion Kross/Scarlett. It was

little bit more than a squash match as Kross/Scarlett gets the win with Kross hitting the Krosshammer

followed up by the Krossjacket and Scarlett sends Emma flying over the announcer’s table. Post match

Kross and Scarlett put a Rey Mysterio mask on Moss and says Rey is running out of time. (Well still

showing Kross as a monster is perfect but Rey!? l mean l don’t get it.)

We get Women’s champ Charlotte in a match with her vs. Sonya Deville in a title match. It was a little

more than a squash match but Charlotte wins and retains the title via spear and into a figure eight. (I

mean, we didn’t expect Charlotte to drop the title to Sonya, did we?)

Video on Cody Rhodes returning to WWE last year. (Foreshadowing that a lot). Remember how Lacey

Evans has been training? She still is. (l mean is Lacey Evans the new Veer Mahaan now?)

We get a Royal Rumble qualifying match between Ricochet v. Top Dolla and wow, wasn’t expecting that

quick of a match. Ricochet hits a standing slice bread on Top Dolla and then a shooting start press for

the win. Post match, Ricochet shakes Top Dolla’s hand, and gets jumped by Hit Row until Braun

Strowman comes in for the save. (I’m happy that Ricochet got the W but l’m guessing Top Dolla is still in

the doghouse.)

We cut back to the Usos leaving Reigns’s locker room and Heyman telling Zayn to come in.

We get a video announcement regarding Gunther v. Braun Strowman for the Intercontinental Title next

week.

We cut back to Reigns locker room as Reigns stated he was sorry to Zayn about he treated him and how

his anger at Owens he directed at Zayn. He also stated he wants Sami to take care of Owens as they face

each other next week and invites him to watch the Usos tag team title match.

We get our main event the Tag team championship match with the Usos vs. Drew McIntyre/Sheamus. It

starts out with just Solo Sikoa there but eventually the Brawling Brutes come down for the melee, and

Sheamus picks up Jey, only for Jimmy helping with an assist for the Usos to retain the title. (It’s weird

because we’re not expecting titles to drop anytime soon but it would make for good television leading

up to the Royal Rumble for the titles to change hands even for a little while.)

Overall, great episode, matches were on the short side but entertaining while the main story just seems

to be the bloodline and Zayn and Owens, but on the road to Royal Rumble more storylines will need to

shape up and fast. My rating for this week’s Smackdown episode is 3 ½ out of 5.

Peace!

First Rampage of the New Year/Battle of the Belts

AEW Rampage – 1.6.23

Hey Y’all, Will here with my review of AEW Rampage for the first one of 2023. Here we go.

We first start off with Top Flight vs. Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson. What a match l’m not sure if Top

Flight was getting over, showing how well Moxley and Danielson can work together or all the above.

Either way the crowd was into it, and there were no loses in this match as Danielson gets the win for his

team over Top Flight with a submission victory.

Our next match was a women’s tag match between Jamie Hayter/Britt Baker v. The Renegade Twins.

Being in Portland, Baker is getting love from the crowd. Great match between all four women as Baker

hits the stomp on Charlette for the win. (Another solid match, and again there were no losers.)

We go to the House of Black. Malakai says he once knew a man who carried a gun in his pocket. He says

he never answered that man and did not reply or play by the rules. Black says he misses his friend Eddie

Kingston. He says Kingston is not the man he knows and loves. Brody King says that he will make him

hear as the sound will be defining. Julia Hart then said House of Black is there to help him. (Black vs.

Eddie Kingston, the man in black vs. the mad king, l dig it.)

Next up is Perro Peligroso vs. Sonico in a quick match and l mean quick, Sonico gets dropped by

Peligroso and follows up with a discus lariat for the win. (The crowd wasn’t into that, and honestly

neither was l.)

We go to a backstage segment with Renee Young interviewing Darby Allin who interrupted by The

Kingdom with Mike Bennett running through his championships.

We then get a TNT championship match between Darby Allin vs. Mike Bennett with the Kingdom at

ringside. This match was crazy, and l mean for Darby Allin was his level of crazy. Somehow Allin was able

to hit a code red on Bennett followed up by a coffin drop for the win and retained his title.

We go into the 2 nd half Battle of Belts with our first match. Jeff Jarett/Jay Lethal vs. The Acclaimed for

the AEW World Tag Team Title. Very fun match, the Acclaimed hit the mic drop on Lethal for the win

and retain their titles.

Eddie Kingston and Ortiz challenge House of Black for next week.

We then get the TBS championship title match between Jade Cargill v. Skye Blue. Well for once it wasn’t

a squash match. Well done match as Jade hits Jaded for the win and retain her title. (Well, l’m surprised

it wasn’t a squash match and Skye worked well with Jade. However, if Jade is going to drop the title, it

has to be soon.)

We then get our main even of the night with the All-Atlantic Championship Match between Orange

Cassidy v. Kip Sabian. Great match, even with The Bunny, Danhausen, coming to the ring, the action was

over the top. Cassidy finds an opportunity on a frustrated Sabian with two Orange punches for the win.

Overall, this was a great two hours of Rampage, the matches didn’t disappoint and it felt more like a PPV

than a regular show. I’ve got no complaints. My rating for this week’s Rampage is 4 ½ chair shots out of

5.

Peace!

AEW Dynamite Review 12.14.22

Will Ricky Starks pull an upset over MJF? Winter is Coming

Hey Y’all, Will here with my review of AEW Dynamite for 12.14.22 live from Garland, TX. Here we go.

We get Match#4 in the best of 7 match against the Elite v. Death Triangle. Death Triangle is up 2-1 and

this match was fun and wild, with package piledriver on the apron, and a hammer being used in the

match. Death Triangle picks up the win with a heel hook and go up 3-1. Post match Omega grabs the mic

and says if Death Triangle wants to cheat, let’s just make the next match No DQ. Oh and he wasn’t

authorized to cut this promo so we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming. (These

matches are great but entertainment wise we know this is somehow going to 7 but l worry these

matches are getting kind of repetitive, unless we’re introducing someone new very soon.. just an idea.)

MJF talks about his upcoming match with Ricky Starks and how everyone wants to see him pull the

upset, but MJF says he is better than him.

The Acclaimed come in for their rap but gets jumped by Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett and company. Jarrett

hits Bowens with the guitar as he says listen. (I’m trying to figure out how they are trying to make

former TNA/Impact stars a thing. Lethal l get, on his own would be great but Jarrett,… no.)

Jericho and The Jericho Appreciation Society with their loss Final Battle, as Jericho vows to win his title

back but tells Garcia to step up and follow Guevara as his mentor, as he will challenge Moxley on

Rampage.

Next match we get is Brian Cage vs. Jungle Boy, and l know what you’re thinking, with Prine Nana and

company at ringside, this would be a squash match. However, Jungle Boy hits a Canadian Destroyer on

Cage and a Snare Trap but thanks to a Nana distraction it gets broken up, but Jungle Boy takes

advantage of a miscue wins over Cage via O’Connor roll. Post match Jungle Boy calls out Big Bill but gets

Stokely Hathaway instead. Lee Moriarty runs out to go after Jungle Boy, allowing Big Bill to come in and

run Jungle Boy over. The beatdown, including a chokeslam, drops Jungle Boy but Hook of all people runs

in for the save. (I’m for this, Jungle Boy seems to be getting a bit of a push and Hook being inserted into

the picture make me wonder are we seeing another tag team in the works.)

We cut to the Blackpool Combat Club who is talking about their recent wins while Moxley says he is

ready for Guevara on Rampage and tells Hangman Page and the Dark Order they can bring it anytime.

Video package on Swerve in Our Glory having issues as a face to face is scheduled next week to settle

things. (By settling things, they mean Swerve will finally turn on Keith Lee.)

We get House of Black vs. The Factory and House of Black cleans house, and l means it’s a beatdown in

under 30 seconds as House of Black gets the win. (I like this, House of Black should just run with this to

build back and matches like this help but a formidable opponent should be down the line.)

Hikaru Shida and Jamie Hayter are ready to fight next week. Britt Baker and Rebel don’t think Hikaru

Shida is ready for Jamie Hayter Skye Blue interrupts and it’s Blue vs. Baker at Rampage.

We then get Chris Jericho v. Action Andretti as the crowd seems to be chanting jobber at Andretti. This

was a longer match than l expected and even the finish of Andretti winning clean via shooting star press

over Jericho. (Well, damn l didn’t see that coming at all. It’s a nice change of pace and Jericho doesn’t

take a hit at all on this.)

Ricky Starks talks about his upcoming match with MJF. FTR wants the Gunn Club for jumping them at

Final Battle.

Chris Jericho is livid about his loss.

We then get Ruby Soho v. Tay Melo with Sammy Guevara at ringside. Not a bad match as Soho gets the

W via Destination Unknown. Post match Anna Jay comes down and beats Soho down. (Soho should be

the next one up for a push but Anna Jay? I mean there are formidable opponents out there for great

matches.)

Hangman Page talks about remembering being knocked out in Cincinnati, but couldn’t remember his

son’s name but says he’ll fight Moxley on Rampage (so either Moxely has a double date or a triple threat

match one of the two.)

Dustin Rhodes and the Best Friends are ready for Kip Sabian, Trent Seven, the Butcher and the Blade on

Rampage. (so we know at least 3 matches that will happen on Rampage)

So we get the AEW World Title match between Ricky Starks vs. MJF. It was everything a world title

match should be between these two, until MJF uses a ref as shield to low blow Starks who was showing

his leg hurt in the match, but the low blow followed by a small package allowed MJF to retain the title.

Post match MJF goes to leave but Bryan Danielson cuts him off. The chase sends MJF into the crowd and

up the steps with Danielson letting him go for some reason. (Well, the ending could have been better

but winning dirty was the only option for MJF, but Danielson coming out of nowhere seems to set up for

MJF’s next opponent.)

Overall, great show, l could do without the Rampage match setups but overall including the best of 7

match and the world title match. My rating for this week’s Dynamite is 3 ½ chair shots out of 5.

Peace!

WWE NXT Review – 1.24.23

Just a week away from Vengeance Day

Hey Y’all, Will here with my review of NXT for 1.24.23 live from Orlando, FL! Here we go!

After a recap of Grayson Waller and Bron Breakker brawling after Waller threw a water bottle at him,

we get our first match.

We get Indi Hartwell v. Tiffany Stratton. This was an ok match, just not a long one. Stratton gets the W

with a triple jump moonsault followed by the pin. (Christopher Daniels would have been proud. It does

kind of put out Hartwell as she has been booked winning for the last couple of months, but the returning

Stratton needed a W to reset her status.)

Jacy Jayne doesn’t seem to think much of Gigi Dolin because Jayne has carried her since the beginning.

Now it’s Jayne’s turn to win and it’s going to be like nothing you have ever seen before. (RIP Toxic

Attraction, you had a good run.)

Drew Gulak and company are training with the Diamond Mine. Gulak doesn’t think much of Miles Borne

so he shows him how it’s done against Julius Creed. Julius trips him down, which doesn’t set well with

Gulak, who swears revenge. (Sometimes l wonder if these different combinations in feuds are

experimental or they really believe they will work; someone is really optimistic.)

We get a Chase U segment where Thea Hail is getting praised for her win last week and Andre Chase

presents her with an award and JD McDonagh comes to accept it. This leads to Chase and McDonagh

having a few words before we have an impromptu match. (Remember what l said about segments not

working, yeah add this one to the list.)

Andre Chase v. JD McDonagh match felt like a quick match, but at least not a squash match. JD

McDonagh hits the Devil Inside on Chase for the win. Post match Duke Hudson storms off as Thea Hail

checks on Chase. (The thing l don’t get about Chase and his Chase U is that has Chase won anything

recently to have a faction and a weekly segment!? It’s almost comical at this point.)

Next up is a woman tag team match between Kiana James/Fallon Henley v. Ivy Nile/Tatum Paxley in a

decent match. Kiana James/Fallon Henley get the win with Fallon hitting a shining wizard followed by

the pin. (Weird tag team arrangement but it was ok for this match.) Post match the argument continues,

with Josh Briggs/Brooks Jensen playing peacekeeper.

New Day is in the back) when Edris Enofe and Malik Blade come in to respectfully ask for a title shot.

Before we can get to an answer, Schism comes in to say they want the shot. They’ll face off next week in

the New Day Invitational and the winners are added to the Tag Team Title match at Vengeance Day.

(Not a bad way to bring in new teams for a tag title call up.)

Apollo Crews goes to the barber shop but Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams come in and aren’t happy.

Crews talks about how Hayes is never going to get rid of him no matter what but Hayes says he is the

younger, more athletic version of him. They both talk about being the next NXT Champion and a 2/3 falls

match is set for Vengeance Day.

Our next match is Hank Walker/Drew Gulak v. Creed Brothers in a good match. Thanks to a Charlie

Dempsey distraction to Gulak, Brutus was able to hit the Brutus bomb on Walker for the win. (Charlie

Dempsey v. Gulak should be a thing as they kind of have a good teacher v. evil teacher thing going. It’s

amazing how the Creed brothers are getting something of a push now and hopefully escaped the Indus

Sher vortex.) Post match Julius apologizes to Ivy Nile for being a bit hotheaded, but that is how he has to

be to be the best version of himself. Both Creeds thank Nile for sticking with them and inspiring

them….and here is Indus Sher (with Jinder Mahal, because of course). The challenge is on for next week

and Nile accepts for the Creeds. (Welp, l spoke too soon.)

Gigi Dolin doesn’t like Jacy Jayne and talks about the thorns that come with a rose. (RIP Toxic Attraction)

Tony D’Angelo and Stacks go to lunch for some Italian/mafia stereotypes. Stacks wants to make an

impact as the new underboss and has apparently taken care of someone already. They have a toast to

Stacks and D’Angelo seems pleased. (Who had the failed goodfellas segment on their wrestling bingo

card?)

Our next match is Wendy Choo v. Elektra Lopez in what felt like a quick match. Lopez gets the win with a

few punches. (There is just something wrong with women’s matches in the WWE lately, they’re either

short or not making a point. It’s almost like Vince is right back in creative.)

Brooks Jensen is so happy with Fallon Henley and Kiana James that he has gotten them a shot at the

Women’s Tag Team Titles at Vengeance Day. Henley is mad because she wanted it to be a one off deal

and Jensen didn’t even ask. She has to think about this. (This feels like more CW drama than actual

wrestling.)

Elektra Lopez tells Valentina Feroz to cheat more but Feroz can’t do it. Lopez doesn’t care and says enjoy

losing. Stevie Turner comes in on a live stream instead of being in person. She has her in-ring debut next

week.

Grayson Waller to call out Bron Breakker and he has his own NXT Title. Cue Breakker with the real title

and everyone shows up to keep them apart. Breakker fights away and spears the barricade, leaving a big

hole in it. (They are really hyping up Vengeance Day)

Gallus is at a pool hall and promises to do their thing at Vengeance Day when they win the Tag Team

Titles.

We get a women’s tag team title match between Alby Fyre v. Kantana Chance/Kayden Carter in which

started out as handicap match but Sol Ruca comes out to be a partner for Alby Fyre. The match was

great as Ruca and Fyre looked great in tag team tandem but Chance and Carter were able to hit their

450/neckbreaker combo finisher to retain their titles. Post match Fyre leaves and walks past Ruca, with

Isla Dawn popping up to follow Fyre out.

Fallon Henley and Kiana James pop up on the platform to say they’ll take the titles.

Wes Less comes up to see Dijak but won’t just hand over the North American Title. Lee feeds off of the

fans and believes he can do anything, which Dijak has to respect. They’re on for Vengeance Day.

(Finally!)

Cora Jade isn’t happy with Lyra Valkyria or the feature she has left in her locker. Nikkita Lyons has been

attacked in the parking lot.

Andre Chase isn’t happy with Duke Hudson, but Duke has gotten them into next week’s New Day

Invitational for a possible Tag Team Title shot at Vengeance Day.

So we get a summit between all three contenders for the NXT women’s title between Jacy Jayne, Gigi

Dolin, and Roxanne Perez. Jayne and Dolin argue over who was the biggest person to carry Toxic

Attraction. (It’s almost like Mandy Rose never existed.) while Perez was enjoying the chaos between the

two, until Jayne and Dolin decide to double team Perez with a double chokeslam through a table. Toxic

Attraction hold up the NXT title. (This was just off, Jayne and Dolin gave the impression that Toxic

Attraction may implode at Vengeance Day. Now they decide to work in tandem against the current

champ. It’s odd that they still want to show they’re a faction but there’s only one title. The one thing l

would do differently, is to book that level of mistrust in Toxic Attraction as there is only one women’s

NXT title.)

Overall, this NXT episode was more scattered than a Waffle House order but this to next to going home

show for Vengeance Day. So we’re seeing a lot of matches being set for us to get invested to. My rating

for this week’s NXT is 3 chair shots out of 5.

Peace!
